Malvern, PA - - Dr. Mary Catherine Scheeler, assistant professor and special education program coordinator is the recipient of the 2008 Penn State Great Valley Teacher Excellence Award. The award is presented annually to a full-time faculty member who has been recognized by students and peers for outstanding service in the classroom and on campus.
A student who nominated Dr. Scheeler commended her for her dedication. “Dr. Scheeler exemplifies what a great professor should be. Her classes are interesting, interactive, and always engaging. She strives to make the content of her courses comprehensible, but immediately relevant to students. Dr. Scheeler is always accessible to her students, and encourages and praises each of them, whether it is in class or privately.”
Dr. Scheeler, who has been a professor at Penn State Great Valley for twenty-five years, is most recently known for her research on the use of wireless technology to provide immediate feedback to pre-service (student) teachers. Her research has been published in several notable education journals including Teacher Education and Special Education, Remedial and Special Education, and Journal of Behavioral Education.
A true Penn Stater, Scheeler received her B.S. in Special Education and Elementary Education, and her M.Ed. and Ph.D. in Special Education all from Penn State.
